Andrew Walker: Investor, Entrepreneur, Coach, Founder and Chief Wealth Officer at SA Property Investors Network
It is impossible not to feel inspired when meeting Andrew. His passion for people, property and passing on his knowledge is evident. Besides being a successful investor, he is a property investment coach and has founded various property-related businesses in the UK and South Africa. Andrew is the founder and CEO of SA Property Investors Network, connecting, educating and motivating a growing number of over 50 000 stakeholders in the property industry. Since the first property he bought at the age of 21, Andrew has personally invested in more than 50 properties across South Africa and the UK. Andrew believes in how education and mentorship can empower anyone to make something from nothing. Instrumental to his own growth was the 8 years he spent in the UK, where he trained under the mentorship of UK property investment gurus Matthew Sneddon and Harry Barclay. Here he learned how to apply various finance strategies, which allows him to buy properties without using his own capital. Insights he happily shares with his students. A proud father and husband, Andrew puts great emphasis on a healthy work-life balance and always dedicates quality time with his family. Miguel Martins: Product Manager at Absa Home Loans, focusing on developing innovative solutions for Property Investors.
Miguel has an extensive background in finance and banking, as well as being a property investor himself. He meets with property investors regularly, discussing various aspects of property management issues and growth strategies. As a property investor, he has a keen understanding of investors’ challenges, needs and the opportunities that are present in the property market. ‘There are usually more opportunities than one can handle at any time, and in these turbulent times, it is incredibly important that all investment opportunities are analysed thoroughly’. Together with his team, Absa Home Loans launched Future Rental Income at the end of 2018. Future Rental Income is a one of a kind offering where an investor is able to use the expected rental income for the property to be purchased, to add to their affordability. This enables investors to grow their portfolios further.
Marisia Robus: Property Inspector.
The day Marisia Robus started in the construction business, her father began building a house. She went to site every day and learned about the construction process from the beginning. This gives her an edge over other home inspectors – when she identifies a problem in a house, she know what caused it. As owner of Gauteng Property Inspections, she is passionate about property and it is very upsetting to her to see how clients are taken for a ride by unscrupulous contractors, sellers and agents. She qualified as an ITC Certified Roof Inspector in 2017, one of only 40 inspectors in the country. Marisia also has has six years property inspection experience and will provide you with a detailed and personalised report on any property you want to buy, a snag list, maintenance report, or assist with a due diligence report. Her motto of : “You would benefit from our knowledge and experience” has made he a sought after property inspector with a reputation for very detailed and impartial reports.
Riaan Naude: Deal Negotiation, Rental Management, Sectional Title Management, Property Coaching, Investment Structure
Unless you’re God, everyone has room to grow – the value of a coach or mentor then becomes undeniable. We all tend to second guess our own decisions at some point irrespective of how established or green a property investor we perceive ourselves to be. This is exactly why having the right coach or mentor is so important. A coach or mentor helps you to gain clarity because you’re often too close to a situation to see it clearly. Stated another way, it’s pretty hard to see your nose, isn’t it? It is literally too close to your eyes, and you just can’t see it very well. Having another person sharing his or her insights about your situation gives you an outside perspective on how to improve, what to change and to avoid the pitfalls that’s literally right in front of your feet. If you are motivated to make improvements, you’ll place a lot of value on your coach’s perspective. It doesn’t matter whether you decide that a coach or a mentor is better for you, but I recommend you get one. Even after 18 years performing the role myself, I follow my own advice. I have a coach/mentor to whom I remain accountable for my personal & professional development. Investing in yourself always brings positive results.
Christiaan Jansen: Home Loans Consultant
Christiaan Jansen started his career at Absa Homeloans, before being headhunted into a large property investment group. Since 2008 his core focus has been on assisting property investors with reaching their goals, the core element to this being structured financing strategies. Having joined the fold at Betterbond, his primary client base consists of property investors whom he assists with purchase planning and facilitation of their finance applications to the banks. He’s an avid networker and his motto is that you’re only as strong as the team you have around you, leaving him focused on ensuring that any type of query that reaches him gets referred to someone who can assist, should the query fall outside of his own specialty. Christiaan has recently joined forces with Finvice, a full-service home loan and commercial financing business in South Africa.
Michelle Dickens: Managing Director at TPN: Registered Credit Bureau
Michelle is the managing director and co-founder of TPN Credit Bureau. TPN is South Africa’s only credit bureau specialising in the collection of tenant behaviour and rental payment profile information. Michelle established TPN in 2000 after working as a rental agent and experiencing first-hand the frustration of dealing with delinquent tenants. In 2007, with the advent of the National Credit Act, TPN registered as a credit bureau and was the first credit bureau globally to specialise in the property industry. Since then, TPN has developed many innovative products and formed close working relationships with global credit bureau TransUnion and Experian to further enhance the vetting of tenants. TPN’s biggest contribution to the property industry has undoubtedly been the creation of a rental payment profile which gives tenants the opportunity to improve their credit scorecard whilst renting a property.
Bruno Simão: Founder and CEO at Bruno Simão Attorneys
Bruno completed his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the University of South Africa, whilst simultaneously gaining exposure and experience in the legal field. After an invaluable term with Burden, Swart & Botha Attorneys in Brooklyn (Pretoria) from 2007 to 2011, Bruno founded Bruno Simão Attorneys in Sandton (Johannesburg) in 2012, noticing a gap in the market for a ‘close relation’ legal services offering to corporate entities and their executives, in essence entailing a collaboration between the client and their attorney on the aspects of the client’s business in need of facilitation and legal attention.
Bruno’s expertise lies predominantly in litigation, commercial and property law.
